Tallinn
Tallinn is the capital and largest city of Estonia, located in the north of the country on the coast of the Gulf of Finland, which forms part of the Baltic Sea. The city has around 440,000 inhabitants and is the third largest city in the Baltic States. Tallinn has a long and complex history: a fortress was built here as early as 1050, the city appeared on maps in 1154, and in 1219 the area was conquered by the Danes. In 1284 Tallinn joined the Hanseatic League, later becoming part of Sweden between 1561 and 1710, and then of the Russian Empire from 1710. Since 1991, Tallinn has been the capital and economic center of independent Estonia. The city is famous for its well-preserved medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by historic walls, as well as landmarks such as Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats), St. Olaf's Church, and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Shopping is concentrated in the Old Town and modern districts, offering local design, amber jewelry, and Nordic brands. Local cuisine combines Baltic and Nordic influences and includes dishes such as black bread, smoked fish, blood sausage, sprats, and traditional pastries. Tallinn is also a major technology hub, often called the Silicon Valley of the Baltic.
Tartu
Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia, with a population of over 90,000 inhabitants. Located in the southeastern part of the country on the Emajõgi River, Tartu is regarded as the intellectual and cultural center of Estonia. It is best known as a historic university city, as the University of Tartu was founded in 1632 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Eastern Europe. Parnu
Pärnu is a popular resort town located on the coast of the Baltic Sea in southwestern Estonia.
